Poplar Plywood Lining for a Tiny House

Weight saving is critical in mobile structures. Using lightweight yet strong poplar plywood is an excellent choice for the following reasons:

- It is lightweight compared to other types of plywood.

- Its lightweight nature makes it easy to handle.

- It has an pleasing appearance.

There are two main options: poplar core with veneer or poplar core with different veneers, which allows for variation in look and feel. It is primarily available in 1200mm widths, though sometimes in 1220mm. It is worth calculating stud spacings if deviating from the standard 600mm centers. The length is 2400mm, though 2500mm can be found. Some suppliers offer 2700mm lengths, which can be very convenient and save build time. The grade of finish for lining ply is usually B, meaning it is ready for finishing with paint, oil, or stain. We recommend a thickness of 7-9mm as a good balance between weight saving and strength.

Poplar plywood is available from various suppliers. We supply BBI, conveniently packed on your new trailer.
